I love this album, I usually listen it when I drive my car and go to love zone ! K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton guitar sounds , Dave Holland drums , Ian Hill bass sound and vocals by Rob Halford !

¨´The decision was made to get a drum machine. All you had to do was hit a drum, or a snare, a couple of times. and then you could literally create the drum beat electronically in the studio. That meant that our poor drummer hardly drummed¨ Rob Haldford words from Confess, his book. He also said that Holland skills on drums were getting directness and simple... well i rather hear a simple organic drum job than a freaking machine.

Cheesy 80s sound? Yes. A weaker one in the Priest's catalog? Yes. Should people hate it because of these? I don't think. Long lasting bands have a journey through decades, eras, soundscapes, but it's part of their musical evolution, that's all. We all know this album was not the end for the band. And this is not worse than an average 80s metal album, imho!

Fucking love this, Monsters of Rock is heavy as hell, Blood Red Skies is amazing, Hard as Iron rips and the title track is one of the best priest songs ever. Shame they haven't played it live since goddamn '88.

What the hell are you all raving about some sound quality? The music is absolutely fine and has more energy and lasting impact than redundant nit-picking. And since it is being made such fuss of, there is nothing wrong with the sound, it's crisp and perfectly suites a musical style such as these songs represent. This album's a good example of why one should never trust public opinion. Probably my favourite Priest record along with Turbo. As the lyrics in track #2 have it - it's "heavy metal - what do you want?".

Great Guitars. Too bad this got replaced by David Bowie in my library. I still love Iron Maiden.

Its such a shame because Hard as Iron has one of my favorite drum tracks of any Priest song.

Great songs on this album, but the production is bad. A HUGE step forward from the glam metal of Turbo though. This is the album where it became apparent that Tom Allom - the producer - and Dave Holland - the drummer - would have to go if they wanted to proceed in this direction. A prequel to Painkiller if you will. I don't understand why they included live versions of "Bloodstone" and "Night Comes Down" as bonus tracks. To my knowledge, there are two unreleased outtakes from this album that did not appear as bonus tracks on any of the other remasters - a version of the Rolling Stones' "Play With Fire", and a song called "My Design". Why not release those as bonus tracks instead?

Yeah, that really bugged me about the remasters, as I'm a guy who's really fickle about chronology. But the good thing is that we have them, right?

I'm with the rest: songs go from average to a few great. The awful production, if it had been properly done, would've helped the album up a few notches for sure. This album should've even sounded better if it had been a double album together with Turbo as it was intended. If this had been a double with Painkiller ... shit would kill.

Spot on, Idiots. Dave Holland is such a fucktastically boing drummer bascally indistinguishable from a drum machine. I bet if you isolated all his drum tracks and challenged somebody to tell the difference between him and every AC/DC drummer, nobody would manage. Except of course every AC/DC drummer isn't a fucking cunt waste of a human being who raped a kid.

Great album, very underrated. It's got some of Priest's most interesting songs ever, but I hate so much about its production sound ... The guitars sound like they're played through a microwave and the drum machine ... that's the worst, with the bass drums sounding like castanets. If this only would've had the same production as Painkiller, it would've been a total killer. This sound doesn't scare anyone.

This album was part of my week long Judas Priest binge and the only songs on it that I didn't get tired of are Ram it Down and Blood Red Skies.
