Christian idealism and its need to escape to a non-existent other plane of existence claims another. She would've killed it in middle age.

I feel a certain way when I look at her and listen to her songs, she feels like home. Her story is ever-intruiging.

Uh... Well... You see... How do I even use words to describe what I just heard? I don't think it's possible.

"Song for Judee" from the case/lang/veirs album is, in my opinion, a very beautiful/touching tribute and a lovely song in its own right. And of course, the beauty of Judee's songs and legacy speaks for itself.

Is there any release of Heart Food that doesn't have the voice + piano spiking in the last few tracks, or is that just in the master recordings?

sorry to reply to old shouts but I've been browsing lastfm as I dust off my old high school CD collection... so in case anyone is wondering, the producer's note on "The Asylum Years" compilation - "The peak-level distortion on Judee's vocals and piano that is sometimes audible on both albums is, unfortunately, inherent in the original multitrack recordings. (The distortion is audible on the original LP releases, although it is somewhat masked by the surface noise of the vinyl. The Compact Disc is, for better or worse, a more transparent and less forgiving medium.)"

J-Dilla(yuck), you're completely wrong. Don't pretend like it's so painfully obvious that Joni sucks, and Judee is so amazing. I'm not saying she's better, but there's a reason Joni had more of an impact. And please, I love Judee, but Joni is painful dreck? Ridiculous. I understand if you don't like where she took her music, many people don't, but it was visionary and masterful, especially for the times. Judee was very original too, but she had her pitfalls as well, ie being a little too preachy every once in a while. They're not miles apart when it comes to their talents as song-writers, stop being a snob and taking it out on Joni cause someone insulted an artist you like

"You're absolutely insane. Sill will always be considered a minor artist of the era because she really didn't attempt anything new, or even particularly expressive. Mitchell clearly moved the music scene with her, and constantly incorporated from outside genres into her pop sound. Her voice was also significantly more adaptable than Sill's." Sure. Sill's incorporation of elements of gospel and chamber music with a deeply unfashionable thematic obsession with eschatology and redemption is just generic pop fare, but let's laud Joni's explorations into, for example, jazz-funk (with a lyrical fixation on the minutiae of the sex lives of boring middle-class white people) as visionary and masterful, rather than the slightly painful dreck that most of it is.

I am in love... I have this on constant rotation. Proof that true craftsmanship & genius will always endure & eventually bloom through for the rest of us to enjoy years later... I can see the need to compare her to Joni but kinda comparing plums to kiwi. would you compare Nick Drake to Bob Dylan? of course not. Judge Judee on her own merit.

I have listened to little else since I first learned about Judee a few weeks ago. She's my favorite musical discovery of recent years. Her melodies have a way of getting under your skin and into your bones. An astonishing, singular, and criminally underheard talent. Not a bad song in her whole canon and many masterpieces Fellow fans may enjoy: http://judeesillappreciation.tumblr.com/

"How about you consider a world in which more than one female artist can exist without one being compared to the other? Leave it to a man to make all these comparisons, I swear to god..." THANK YOU ripchord!
