I was expecting absolutely nothing from this album. Maybe that's why I find it pretty good

This album is great! Although it's different from what he does with The Strokes, it's still awesome and really gives a retro feel to it! :)

he was extremely anxiety ridden before releasing this album, especially having thom yorke's solo album as his main inspiration. but he pulled it off - and while sober! i think he did an amazing job and all the hard work really paid off with Phrazes. instant classic and i hope not just a one time deal.

just occurred to me this sounds like it might have been partially inspired by some early brian eno, specifically the album taking tiger mountain (by strategy). i bet i'm the first person ever to have thought of that.

I've noticed that almost all negatives reviews mention how different this is from the Strokes and how thats a problem. That's a good thing, we're hearing different things from Julian which is exciting and fresh. I'm sure they would have complained just as much if the album sounds exactly like The Strokes. The album is great!

He has a unique singing style, I'm a singer and singing along to him is pretty hard he's got his own thing going on. This is why it doesn't get boring even after you listen many times. thumbs up Julian.
