i've never heard of this group until spotify told me that their new ep came out. i don't know why it told me it came out, maybe because of proximity? its ok i guess, i don't feel like i would have gone out of my way to listen to their music. i feel like there's something there with the song Hold, like it could be a lot better if they slowed it down or mellowed it out, i'm not a music production person so i don't know the technical terms. let me know what you think about this group and their new ep

They're one of my all-time favourite bands but I will say two things: 1) Touch is the gateway album to explore them; and 2) seeing them live is really the best way to experience them because the live recordings are nothing compared to the show and how interactive they are. I've seen them over 50 times and no two shows are the same. They explore so many genres, it's tricky to pinpoint them, but if Hold caught you most of the three new songs, I'd check out Champagne, Touch, and I've Rationed Well then spin Touch if you're still digging it.

adding on that they are absolutely a different band live. A recording could never truly capture their energy and dynamic. I've seen them three times and most people I've talked to at shows have seen them multiple times. If you really want a feel for this band, watch full recordings of sets. Peter and Leah make magic on the stage every time.

You probably got the recc because Cadence Weapon opened for them last tour for a few dates - they chose CW because they are huge fans and the entire tour was openers from the various cities they personally loved. It was fantastic and I ended up snagging a lot of music from new bands.

I photographed my favourite band at TURF, the Toronto Urban Roots Festival. Check out my pics and words in this July Talk post: http://www.oneintenwords.com/2014/08/turf-day-3-band-2-july-talk.html and in my TURF teaser post: http://www.oneintenwords.com/2014/07/im-such-tease-turf-2014.html Damn, I love this band!

I second Jane's comment on their Osheaga performance... What a God damn way to kick off the festival. Such a great performance. Looking at my photos of their set is somewhat easing the post-Osheaga depression that has taken full throttle of me...

July Talk puts on a fantastic live show, one of the best opening acts I've seen in a long time.
