The pop of “Solo — Volume 1” is straight talk, but with some harmonic twists, to the author’s taste. “It’s a flavor that I like to add, something very much my own, trying to escape the obvious.” In one of the tracks, “Passar dos Danos”, there is a bossy atmosphere in the electric piano phrase, combined with a quote from “Cotidiano” (Chico Buarque) in the lyrics. On vocals, Junior alternates between softness, tension and occasional soul accents, depending on interpretative needs. And he knows how to use effects, dubs and studio resources to his advantage. In addition to being an excellent musician, he is now an artist with a complete producer's mind. No one goes through more than ten years of electronic experiments (on Dexterz and Manimal) without being profoundly transformed.

The drummer side appears more prominently in the opening track, the swinging “De Volta Pra Casa”, with bass programmed and bass played — by Dudinha, an old companion since the days of Soul Funk, the band that Junior set up in 2005 to play covers at Na Mata Café, in São Paulo. The arrangement includes twists that recall the hit “Easy Lover” (Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey), from the 80s, made with mythical rotontons on a Ludwig Vistalight (the favorite drum of John Bonham, from Led Zeppelin).

Accustomed to co-producing albums since “Identidade” (2003), Junior produces all the tracks on the album together with Felipe Vassão (from the praised work of Emicida) and Lucs Romero. He didn't know Vassão personally, but the two got on the same page from the first lunch. “The guy liked all the tracks I showed him, he didn’t want to throw anything away. He’s crazier than me”, jokes Junior. Vassão nominated Romero, who had already caught Junior's attention through his work with Fresno. And the identification was immediate, based on their mutual passion for Ableton production software. “We got along very well in the process. Everyone knows how to work as a team. No ego, no judgement. Always in favor of sound, in favor of music.”
