The music video for this song is, fittingly, a very distinct reflection of the marriage between my maternal grandparents, who had been married for more than 50 years, until in 2018 my grandmother passed away from cancer and my grandfather has never managed to recover since (And likely never will). Like the people in the video, my grandparents met in the 50s, and fell in love in the 60s before having a child without marriage first. Inspite of it all my grandparents struggled and grew together, and just like the man in the video who always saw his wife as a beautiful youthful bride, my grandfather told me in my grandmother's last days that even though she had lost a huge amount of weight and hair, she would be always be beautiful to him. When she passed away, he held her quietly and solemnly until the body was forced into the morgue. I remember when this song came out and thought this video was kinda cheesy, but now I will never be physically able to watch it without crying ever again.
