Biography

Jan Nemecek is no stranger to electronic music. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, he was introduced to electronic music at early age. Already at that time, he was determined to start creating electronic music, his style being void of mainstream rules and cliches. First starting with an early drum machine and tape recorder, he moved on to using various synthesizers and MIDI sequencers and today records everything in his expanding project studio. By establishing contacts and relations with the similar authors outside his home country, Jan contributed to a certain number of projects published worldwide. Besides, he collaborated with the companies worldwide as a sound designer for software and hardware synthesizers (Wusik, Hartmann, Manytone…). The results of his interest in experimenting with the possibilities of natural and synthesised sound, sampling techniques etc. and this conceptual and musical signature is both audible and visible while listening to his works. His seminal 2005 space release Through the planetary Void (Blue Water Records) became widely acclaimed with listeners and creators of ambient music. In 2006 he released Afterimage, a CD and DVD set that encompasses his work to date in ambient music. With his performance at Exit Festival 2006, Jan has established himself as a viable artist in modern electronic music genres like minimal techno and click house. In 2007, he co-founded the pioneering netlabel Norbu where he and his colleagues showed a more experimental side of electronica, minimal and house. He has also been seen remixing other artists (such as Marko Nastic), and releasing on other labels. With several upcoming releases such as the collaborative, numbers-inspired Numbers EP with Rec.ept and Jan's own solo EP on Traffica Records, he shows that his exploration of electronic music has just begun. Occasionally he is seen performing live club sets (playing to date with both well-known local and worldwide artists such as Billy Nasty, Valentino Kanzyani and others) and more traditional ambient and electronica performances paired with live visuals.
