My fave of him. It's incredible how Stockie can sustain a work as varied and inventive as this.

I think something very interesting about this piece is the more you listen to it, the more patterns you find, and very slowly, over time, it becomes extremely enjoyable.

loving minute 34-35. nicely timed. shocking. @Shanghaindie serial music is your keyword. this piece was composed using such techniques. maybe try recognizing variations or think about yourself playing it. i think such music, for the intensive experience, requires greater attention while listening, but it has also more to offer in an informational sense. there are more new patterns in such music than elsewhere.

Any help in trying explain what exactly is going on in these recordings would be greatly appreciated.

While I'm normally pretty interested in experimental music, this album for me was a tad unaccessible and difficult to follow. I even made an attempt to actively listen along and try to grasp onto a theme but was unable to identify one. Perhaps my ear for serialism and other related styles is not yet refined enough to pick up the general ideas Stockhausen attempts to portray here in MANTRA.
