Biography

Karma Kode is Elizabeth Solana’s solo Project.
She was born in Puebla, México and started her music career while studying high-school, where she met Jesus León (Dr. J. Rámoz), who had an Alternative Rock band. Then she joined the band as vocalist and bass player.

A few years later Elizabeth and Jesús refreshed their compositions by experimenting with other musical genders, such as Trip-Hop and Ambient and then, they decided to start another project called Stervhïa, word that belongs to an artificial language called “Mittrahäm” which Elizabeth created to give an exotic accent to her lyrics and mixing it with her vocals, it gave a melancholic, mystical and sensual sound to the project.

By the year 2005 they made public their project with their album Non Muntër, giving concerts, interviews, participating in festivals, etc. But besides the broadcasting and their audience acceptation in the underground area, they couldn’t keep sponsoring their project on their own, so they decided to leave Stervhïa.

In the meantime, Elizabeth was working on her project, which at first was only created to represent her work making remixes, that later were published in a single called Enkoded Versions.

Some years later, Jesús invited Elizabeth to participate in the nameless project called who, an interesting project which was based in small samples taken from old recordings from the 40’s and 50’s, with Abstract Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop and Breakbeat bases and turntablism textures added.

Tears Fall, Heartbreak Motel, Sun and Hookers, The Walk of May 15th and Butterfly, are the songs in which Elizabeth participated composing vocals and lyrics.

Later she decided to retire from music temporarily and until the year 2013, she returned with Karma Kode, but this time composing original songs, inspired in some experiences that generally reflect a discouraging perspective about the world.

With her raw lyrics, rude, gloomy and melancholic textures, she shares with us the album Black Apple, produced and mastered by Jesús León and the participation of Ramón Durañona (guitar player and arrangements).
