Deadman and Change are just silly good. Not many bands will write a single song as good as either in the careers, and the Vool had the luxury of just lashing them both together to close out what is - imo - the best prog album of the 21st century. Frightening levels

Has to be one of the finest prog albums of the past ten years or so. I've been going through a brutally difficult time this past month or so, and this album, which I only heard recently for some reason, has been an incredible comfort and one of the few reliable pleasures throughout that time. The whole band is amazing, but as is often the case with this kind of music, I find the rhythm section to be the true stars of the show. Incredible songs, too. I think Change, Deadman, Umbra, and The Caudal Lure would be my favourites if I were forced to pick, but I can't imagine this album without any of its songs. One of those rare releases that immediately grabs you on first listen and, some twenty listens later, is still revealing new depth. Now if only I could wrap my head around Asymmetry. I'm sure it'll click once I spend more time with it, but I'll have to stop listening so obsessively to this one before I can do so. lol

This is why I like to browse shouts at last.fm: stories! I can relate to your story. Assymetry will at some moment just click...never understood why it suddenly did. For a long time it sounded...i dont know...dissonnant?...and then...it didn't! I guess I found the magic in the music. Manchester Orchestra's 'A Black Mile to the Surface' had a similar effect on me during a difficult time. Couldn't stop listening to it. Maybe you will like it too. Lastly: I can recommend the band Amplifier. Their first album (also called amplifier) will ease you into their increasingly psychedelic-like music ;)

You know an album has to be called masterpiece, if there are songs such as "Deadman", "New Day" and "All I Know" on it.

From start to finish an absolute masterpiece. Why more people don't know about these guys is beyond me.

Fantastic album which I only discovered recently. I know it was released in Australia in 09, but I think it only came out around these parts earlier this year... so I dunno whether I should consider it an 2009 or a 2010 release... easily one of the best of either year, one way or the other!

First album I heard by them, picked up randomly due to a cool front cover, and it really is a fantastic album - it's like some glorious concoction of Tool, Incubus with a sprinkle of Khoma...which is a fairly bizzare mixture, but apperently an incredible one - they also manage to have a unique sound, despite such strong influences, which is impressive. Also, yeah, lovely bass sound and production in general.

I discovered them last year through some prog band's forum. I was immediately hooked on this album. This album is deep, and means a lot to me. I'm still glad I got 'Themata', it's the perfect companionpiece for this demanding album. And yes, the bass is amazing, and in most songs the bringer of heaviness.

This is the only album I've heard by Karnivool, as the group is still practically unknown in the US, but this is a masterpiece. I have gotta say this is could be one of the best albums I have ever heard.

I'm really not sure which of the Vool's albums I prefer. They're so very different.
