“Harleys In Hawaii” is the third single of Katy’s fifth studio album, “Smile”. It was preceded by “Small Talk” and “Never Really Over”, released earlier in the year. The release marks the second time Katy has worked with chart-topping singer/songwriter/producer Charlie Puth; their first collaboration being on her previous single, “Small Talk.”

This summery anthem was first announced in an interview with The Zach Sang Show in July 2019. Katy later revealed the song’s release date in a tweet on October 15, 2019, simultaneously unveiling the cover art.

The inspiration for “Harleys In Hawaii” came when Perry’s current fiancé, Orlando Bloom took the singer on a motorcycle ride in Hawaii, during the filming of American Idol. She said during an interview with the Zach Sang Show: «To be on the back of a motorcycle in Hawaii with the air blowing on your face is so beautiful. I was whispering to Orlando: ‘I’m going to write a song called “Harleys in Hawaii,”‘ and I did. It just dropped into my head.»
