I hadn't listened to this in a long time. Not surprisingly, it is still the greatest song ever written.

"Tell me why world, unfathomable and good, the beauty of everything is infinite and cruel. An airplane, a puppet, an orange, a spoon, a window, and outside, stars and the moon". This part really hits me for some reason. It makes me feel very... introspective.

Amazing lyrics. I get them fully. And what's great about them is you can't explain what's to get - you either feel it in your soul or your don't. "Our eyelashes weaken with a weight that is sweet and fine. And this feels like frogs and spiders in the sweet outside. Tell me why world, unfathomable and good... the beauty of everything is infinite and cruel? An airplane, a puppet, an orange, a spoon... a window, an outside, the stars and the moon"

I tossed this band aside for a longggggg time because I always thought they were too "pretentious". I'm so stupid...this is fucking amazing

Anyone notice how tracks 1, 3, and 5 of CotE all have incoherent vocals (excluding the spoken word part on this track), while 2 and 4 have crispy clean ones? It took me about a year to decipher "The Manifold Curiosity" and "The Antique", but I could NEVER understand the phrasing in this track... They seem to skip lyrics, like they do later on "Aura on an Asylum Wall".

"...and so ten centuries solemnly collide; love failed, and I have lost my name." What a beautiful opening line for such an epic song.

The sheer amount of fuck-words in this shoutbox makes me want to infer that this is one of the most eargasmatic songs of all time.

AWESOME song. Still on of my favourite songs ever, and if I make a compilation of stuff I like this goes on every time. It just has it all, and the song really defies structure in the most amazing way. I really can't think of a better song to fit the abjective "experimental". This song singlehandedly justifies experimental music imo. The climax before the calm still gives me chills.

this is my favorite song of forever and ever. but it makes me feel like i'm being kidnapped onto an enemy spaceship and taken somewhere where i'll never see earth or anyone i love on it ever again.

The final chaotic crescendo that comes at around four minutes in, just before that chugging doom riff, is the single greatest moment of music that I've ever heard. There are plenty of songs that give me chills, but that specific part of the song makes my entire body almost go numb every time I hear it. The term "eargasm" comes somewhat close to describing how this song makes me feel; it's perfect.

Could the breakdown of the sequences / scenes go something like this..? ;o) Strange drum & guitar fills -> french horn & guitar duo -> modern classical / extremely dissonant "noise" section -> all hell breaks loose, everything on at the same time, feeling you're being crushed - section -> slowdown to doom metal riff -> rhodes leading us to ambient landscapes -> unsettling background sounds -> recited poem -> end in near silence. Astonishing.

Marathon is the best song, perhaps ever. I mean, how can you have so many different parts together yet have such a coherent and beautifully flowing song? It's astonishing. This aspect baffles me, even today, and probably will until the end of my days.

GrayChild, listen to "The Manifold Curiosity". Prime contender for "Best Song Ever".

lolwut... anyway, that heavy chord that comes in at around 2:35 after the first delicate section scares the shit out of me. i never really know when it's coming.

Indeed. There used to be a tag attached to this song called "when the poem kicks in at the end i'm already dead" and I agree wholeheartedly. This is, I think, the most cathartic song I've ever heard. It's also by far my favorite from Kayo Dot, and when you take into consideration that Kayo's other material isn't too shabby, it tells you everything. This song is just absolutely phenomenal, astounding, astonishing and transcendental.
