Black Panther the Album Music From and Inspired By

Wiki

Black Panther: The Album is a compilation of music from and inspired by the 2018 Marvel film Black Panther.

The compilation was released on February 9, 2018 (one week before the release of the film) through Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

"All The Stars", "Opps" and "Pray For Me" all make appearances in the film itself, while the rest are inspired by the movie.

The soundtrack is executive produced by Kendrick Lamar and TDE CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith.

Producer Sounwave explained in an interview published on February 27, 2018 with HitsDailyDouble that South African music played a large role in the production of the soundtrack:

"There were a variety of reasons why each artist was picked, from Kendrick, Top Dawg and I already being fans of the artist to finding the right person to match the emotion we were looking for, and also a lot of studying different kinds of music. We were listening to a massive South African playlist for months, straight to where we became big fans of the sound and culture. And that was an important part, because we wanted to go inside their world to get an organic sound, sonically and emotionally."

On February 18, 2018, the soundtrack debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 154,000 equivalent album sales. It is Lamar’s fourth album in a row to debut in the top spot during the first week of its release.
