Biography

kent "kenny" gomez, born in Bellvue Hospital and raised in East Harlem ("EL BARRIO").
First band and age 14. Around 16, was recruited by Orquesta La New Yorker along with a guy named Hector Perez whom later on was known as Hector La Voz.
The Kent Gomez Orchestra played various gigs, alot of them, POZO'S (afamous/infamous after hours club in El Barrio, which also help Pozo paint the interior all black and did all the artwork on walls in blacklight neon paint).
Kent and Jose Mangual Jr.(compadres) also gigged the circuit on the side.
Kent's first recording was with Fonseca Records. The vocalist was Freddy Delgado, formerly with Johnny Colon. Richie Ray was the main artist, Richie becoming quite sucessful was offered a deal with a major label. Fonseca then released an album titled "Duelo Musical" containing Richie Ray, Willie Rodriguez, and the center attraction, Kent Gomez, to probably piss off Richie.
Richie Ray, incidentally the name coined by Fonseca because the brothers Richie Maldonado and Ray started the group.
MIO RECORDS was the next recording, which was "MY GHETTO".(in the first 16 track state of the art studio)
Moving on. Kent and Jose Mangual Jr. joined the Willie Colon band to play Willies first gig in Los Angeles and "VIRGINIA'S NIGHT CLUB". Upon returning, recording the album "COSA NUESTRA". One the the tunes on that album was inspired on Virginia's bandstand by Kenny, Hector and Willie, "NO ME LLORES MAS".
After some time, Kenny formed an alliance with TONY PABON, trumpet, composer, vocals, and a beautiful person, from the PETE RODRIGUEZ ORQ. The formation of a slightly radical group named "LA PROTESTA".
Kent recorded a number of albums with La Protesta which contained various compositions of his including "BANDERA".
In '72 moved to Miami. Played in various dinner night clubs and acclimating himself to a new cultural experience.
Formed "LA CREACION 75", recorded for VELVET RECORDS. That album contains the first rendition of "GUARARE" (which LITTLE RAY RODRIGUEZ staying at Kent's house at that time, passed it on to Ray Barretto whom then recorded it). Hacha y Machete, original inspiration by Kent and the help of Enildo Padron. Which whom the latter got the credit.
Next, JOSE ANTONIO FAJARDO, travel, recorded for a period time.
CONJUNTO IMPACTO, nice long stint with a bunch of recordings.
Moving on, entered 'HANSEL Y RAUL ORQ", co-composing, arranging, and recording their mega hit "MARIA THERESA Y DANILO".
