Biography

Koma Amed was a Kurdish-Turkish group

Koma Amed was established in 1988 by Fikri Kutlay, Amhet Kaya, Melek, and some other Kurdish students in Ankara, Turkey. Their first album was Kulîlka Azadî, which was released illegally; at that time the Kurdish language was banned by the Turkish government. In 1990 they released the same album legally, but it was banned again. Koma Amed started to work with NÇM (Cultural Center of Mesopotamia) in 1991. After that they released Agir û Mirov, followed by their last and best-known album Dergûş which sold over 400.000 at that time. Three years later the group split, some of the members going on to set up a new group, Çar Newa.
