La Smala is a Belgian francophone hip-hop group , originally from Brussels. The band released their first album, Un murmure dans le vent , in 2014, followed by Un Cry dans le Silence in 2015.
They are also part of the collective At Our Turn, consisting of themselves, Caballero, Ysha, Lomepal, JCR (NEM, Seven and Sima) and Exodarap (Jeanjass, Blondin, Raf and DJ Eskondo) .
The group is formed in 2007, and from Collectives the Collective Exitory (FLO, Senamo and Seyté) and New Generation (GOR and Rizla). "The word means family in Arabic, it was springing! We immediately had a family spirit , " they explain.
The members of the group are all from Brussels communes, Seyté and Rizla come from Uccle , Senamo and Shawn-H de Forest and FLO de Jette . They are therefore first and foremost friends who have embarked on rap by dint of being together to enjoy their common passions. DJ X-Men will make his appearance later in the band, he is not a rapper, so he only concentrates on his role as a DJ. The projects, together or in solo, are linked. The personal successes of FLO, Rizla, Seyté and Senamo help to increase the contingent of fans, while confirming the potential of their respective and common talents.
In the tradition of mixtapes , La Smala brings the net tapes ' On est Là Là - Volume 1 , 2 and 3, free of charge . The meeting with the organization Back in the Dayz became a determining factor and finally popularized the group. In May 2014, after a few clips, their first album, Un murmure dans le vent , unleashes 10 years of underground hip-hop and is immediately and unanimously recognized as a real artistic achievement. Successful commercial, the album is quickly out of stock, and ranks as one of the best sales on iTunes in Belgium.
Thanks to this recognition, La Smala attracted media interest and continued concerts and festivals, with a definite apotheosis at the Festival of Dour 2014. The band then signed with Sony Music , and presented its new album Un cri dans la silence dans la grande Room of the AB in 2015.
