Biography

Lapsed is moniker of Jason Stevens.

Built on influences of industrial, IDM, and electronic artists of the ’80s and ’90s, Jason M. Stevens found himself exploring his own cut-up, IDM/illbient sounds in 1998. In 2002, Lapsed was born as an experimental electronic act. Ad Noiseam Records debuted the glitchy, atmospheric, "Twilight (ADN34)" to critical acclaim in 2004. While growing in notoriety, Ad Noiseam released subsequent records “Lapsed (ADN53)” with “The Death of Convenience (ADN87),” co-produced with nonnon .Following a 13-year hiatus, Lapsed has self-released two records in 2020, both to be reissued on Crunch Pod Records in 2021: "A Weariness that Consumes and Destroys" signals the return to his darker atmospheric roots, while “Speculative Annihilation” finds influence in hazy ’90s IDM.

Throughout the early 2000s, Lapsed appeared onstage among prominent performers at festivals like Maschinenfest (Germany 2005), Rhode Island Noisefest (2005), SoukMachines Fest (Montreal 2006), Ad Noiseam Mayday Fest (Berlin 2009), and Vendetta Fest (Denver 2009). In addition to a successful tour with label mates Larvae in 2006, Lapsed played alongside notable acts Displacer, Cdatakill, Enduser, Manufactura, Mentallo & the Fixer, Wilt, KiEw, Jamie Lidell, Astronautalis, and many others. In 2020, Stevens returned to the stage with dark ambient/industrial Serpents of the Rainbow. Previously, Stevens has also been featured as a live member of dark electro act Lexincrypt. Stevens also composes in death industrial/dark ambient project INFELIX.
