Before today, I couldn’t name 1 Led Zeppelin song. To be honest I still can’t because I haven’t listened to the album yet

Fuckin' A, you got some serious taste, diving into Zeppelin's fourth album like it's the fuckin' Bible of rock. That record, man, it's like a goddamn sonic journey through the depths of some mystical shit and the highs of pure rock adrenaline. They didn't just play music; they fuckin' channeled it from some otherworldly place, you know? Every track is like a piece of a puzzle that fits together into this masterpiece of sound. And "Stairway to Heaven," shit, that song's like a rite of passage for any fuckin' rock fan. Starts off all innocent and acoustic and then bam! It hits you with that onslaught of Page's guitar wizardry. But I gotta ask, what's your take on "When the Levee Breaks"? Does that heavy blues just knock you on your ass or what?

This is the artistic peak alongside Physical Graffiti. What an amazing showcase of their talent and instrumental work

When I saw Robert Plant sing it live in 2002 on the support slot for The Who he appropriated the line in the song to Indiana.

Black Dog, Rock and Roll, The Battle of Evermore and Going to California are the best tracks on Led Zeppelin IV, IMO. An excellent album!

Almost certainly Zeppelin's best album, although some of their best individual tracks are on other albums ("Kashmir", "Achilles Last Stand", etc.). Still, it's hard to deny the power of this one from start to finish; there's something about it that few other bands throughout the history of rock and roll have managed to match. These songs sound like they have existed forever, despite how stylistically groundbreaking the album was when it was recorded. It's a perfect synthesis of so many different styles (hard rock, folk music, psychedelic, progressive rock, list goes on), and the songs never once get dull. The band was perhaps at its most cohesive as a unit when they recorded this too; every musician turns in a definitive performance. It's tempting to declare an album overrated when it gathers as much acclaim as this one has, but this is truly a masterwork.

I mean, I already knew how great this album is, but its full excellence is only just hitting me now. (The joy of growing up without rock radio around!) Stairway to Heaven is one of the most beautiful, spine-tinglingly great showcases of acoustic-electric dynamics I've ever heard, right up there with the song Aqualung, which was incidentally being recorded in the same studio at the same time, just one floor up. In fact, the album as a whole balances acoustic and electric guitars like hardly anyone but 1971 Tull can. Zeppelin! Truly one of one the best bands ever! It really bears repeating. Hearing this with (almost) fresh ears is just ... oh man ...

What MisterJunior said, minus the favorite Zep song designation, although I'm fairly certain When the Levee Breaks would be in my top five.

I've heard all the songs a million times, but there's no denying this is a godlike album. There's a reason all the songs are universally known: they're awesome. "When the Levee Breaks" is my absolute favorite Zeppelin song.
