Biography

Led to Sea is the solo project of Seattle-based violist Alex Guy. Guy's new album, "Into the Darkening Sky", is a beautiful collection of both orchestral compositions and stripped-down songs for viola, voice and drums. She's joined on the recording by some of Seattle's most talented musicians, including Jherek Bischoff (The Dead Science) on bass, Paul Kikuchi (Orkestar Zirconium) on drums and Lori Goldston (Black Cat Orchestra) on cello.

"I had written my first album on guitar, and added in the string melodies later," said Guy. "As I was completing that project, I began to write exclusively on viola and violin. This led to a really different kind of song, which felt more true to my musical roots of classical, punk, and experimental music. With this new album, all the structure and melodic inspiration for the songs came directly from my viola."

Guy recently returned from a two-month European/US tour with Laura Veirs, where she opened several weeks of shows, and was received enthusiastically. She has also toured solo as Led to Sea across the U.S., in the UK and in central Europe.

Over the last seven years, Guy has toured with Mirah, Laura Veirs, the Degenerate Art Ensemble, Jason Webley and Danny Barnes. She has recorded on the albums of Xiu Xiu, the Dead Science, Parenthetical Girls, and the Pharmacy. Guy has also composed music for a number of theater and dance productions in Seattle and New Mexico.
