I can usually tolerate his penchant for dreadful female backing vocals, but here it's just too much.

it's a nice album, but the backing really needed a little bit more to it I think

this album is one of the most drastic "growers" ever, at least in my case... for a long time i thought it was decent, neither horrible nor great - but something about its subtle grace isn't immediately grasped... now i couldn't imagine living without this album, it might even be my favorite by LC.

Flat? Can a voice that rugged ever be flat? I'd say it's a remarkable set in which the cheap, cheezy synth arrangements contrast with the overall hopelessness of the situation. Accepting that hopelessness, Leonard Cohen shows how stoicism and humour can help to survive it. As Franz Kafka said, it's not that there's no hope in the universe; in fact, there's plenty, just none for us!

this album is so sad 'cos it tells us that Time has no Mercy and that the compositions are penned by an old and worn-out man. flat overall despite a decent job by Sharon Robinson.

This album is the proof that the selection of sounds doesn't matter when the compositions are fine.
