Don't know how I missed this one for so long. Such a great beautifully honest and intimate work, love it now. Groovy, poppy and indie lo-fi sloppiness, all in one brilliant blend here.

It cheers me up in a weird but consistent way too. I can imagine listening when I'm 90, realising I've been coming back to it basically forever. Life goes on, some shit changes, but Exile in Guyville remains a constant in a bizarre and inexplicable way. Rating 8.5/10? You know nothing, Jon Snow.

@mk741: I'd say it shares some... thing in common with Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted. Production-wise mostly... it does have that ramshackle, lo-fi-ish sound. No idea if Liz was ever into Pavement.

If I were banished to a desert island and could take only one album with me, it would be this.

On the second listen I've grown to like this much better, but I still resent people piling a Hype Backlash-inducing amount of praise on it...

It's funny, when I bought this months ago, I hated it and forgot about it. Then I recently just randomly decided to dig it up and listen to it again, and now I can't freaking get enough of it. Good album.

I just got my Deluxe Edition copy. I can't say I'm "rediscovering" this album, cause I never ceased listening to it. But I'm even more in love with it now. One of the greatest albums indeed, and best debut album EVER.
