Biography
Lucio Amanti (born Montreal, QC, Canada, 1977) is a jazz and classical cellist with a Neapolitan soul. He grew up and begun his studies in cello and composition in Naples, Italy. Lucio continued his studies in France, and in the U.S. with the legendary cellist, Janos Starker.
Lucio Amanti then decided to explore different approaches to cello playing, improving his already-strong classical preparation with serious studies in the jazz field; his mentor was the well-known Dr. David N. Baker. Amanti thus achieved a master's degree in jazz studies.
After finishing his studies, Amanti decided to focus on finding a personal balance between musical tradition and jazz experimental approaches.
Amanti has recently finished his first commercial album, Jazzcello,, which has placed among the Italian iTunes Top 10.
In Jazzcello, Amanti keeps both classical and jazz inspirations constantly in balance through improvisation and the use of electronic sound art to create the illusion of a string ensemble, a percussion ensemble, and/or a rhythm section.
Amanti is currently living in Berlin, Germany where he is writing and recording film scores, collaborating as guest teacher at the Jazz Institute Berlin, and working with the sound-branding team, Metadesign, AG.
Lucio Amanti has performed and collaborated with Luis Bacalov, David N. Baker (Conductor), Aldo Ciccolini, David Sanchez, Ricardo Lorenz, Roberto de Simone, among others.
