What an amazing album! The two best one-off albums of the 90s were this and Temple of the Dog, which both featured the guitar whiz Mike McCready. The mood of the music on this album suits the lyrics perfectly, which range from depressive to hopeful and optimistic. It sounds like Layne had really come to terms with his addictions, and was looking forward to leaving those chains behind. Unfortunately, as he said in River of Deceit, his pain was self-chosen, and he chose to go back to his addiction. Very sad.

Took me a couple of listens to get into when I first heard it. Amazing album though.

This used to be my favorite album for years. Shame they didn't have time to make few more in this direction...

It is not only the best grunge LP, it is beyond grunge. It's one of the best albums ever! I agree with you all: wouldn't change anything on it, every song is perfect ('pure perfection' - very good words!), never grows old, pure art.... Why, oh why we won't get another album like that! Nevermind, It has been 15 years and I still listen to it as frequently as it would come out today. The good news is they went even further during their Live At The Moore performance. Strongly recommended!!

This came out the same year as AIC self titled, and I got to admit I prefer this.

This album is an ultimate representation of music as art in its pure form. It never grows old, as it constantly evolves with time, more you listen to it.

The most beautiful grunge album ever recorded. Perfect, every song is amazing, not one thing I'd change.

There aren't enough words to correctly describe the greatness of this album. The songwriting is so powerful it gives me chills! [2]
