this is the original of the song. An interesting writer indeed. It is true that people are usually unoriginal and rigidly follow social norms and traditions. Sticking to conventions is brainless. Yet, it puts you in a cycle of life which one can not break, and this is where race, class, gender, and so forth, stereotypes form. Is this the best way to live however? Is something wrong with society? When things happen the same way can any real change come about? Can the world ever be better?

I also first heard this on the show "Weeds", and on behalf of all those like me, let me apologise to the true Malvina Reynolds fans for associating it with the show. I'm sure many of us will check out more of her great music. I say this because I know how it feels. As an Iron Maiden fan I get annoyed at those who only know Run to the Hills because of Rock Band...or Guitar Hero...

Thank god for this song. If it wasn't for Malvina Reynolds, we'd have no reminder for how mediocre and dim-witted the middle class is. Thank god we're all so much better than those people in those stupid little boxes. </sarcasm>

She wrote this about Daly City, Cali! Take 280 north into the city and you'll suddenlly see a big hills, all full of little boxes. there are blue ones, and yellow ones, etc. and they're all made of ticky-tacky because they *are* all the same.

Thanks thgori for the reference. I was like, why the heck do I know this song? Ah suburbia. herr_sin, I'm not sure ticky tacky has any official meaning. In the song, I suppose it's something like cheap and boring materials that are used for cookie cutter (that is identical or lacking character) houses.
