The Russian commenters once again prove to be the most toxic community on last.fm. I find Manizha the best way for Russia to bid goodbye to Eurovision—a fantastic performance and message from an obviously talented artist. But the country in its current state does not deserve musicians like that. Some day maybe.

First of all, there is no talent there. Secondly, how can a Tajik woman say anything about Russian culture? Maybe she will sing about her people? Or should Russians sing about a Tajik woman at Eurovision?

Manizha had been living in Moscow since 1994. She had more than enough time to get the feeling of the culture and the people and to become no less a Russian than anyone else. She was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency from Russia. But I guess there's only one nationality in Russia, a country that includes no less than 190 ethnic groups?

So I've been told that Russia was not supporting their artist they sent to Eurovision? Then I wonder how was she elected in the first place? I think it was a powerful song. But how come the Russian TV-channel was sending her if they didn't like what she stands for?

OK, sorry I was not looking up this enough before writing. I thought it was an internal choice like previous years. Didn't knew about the national selection for this year. So, it was selected through a live final?

Yes, it was selected through a live final. Manizha won with 39,7%. The second place was taken by the pop duo #2Маши (#2Mashi) with 35.7% and the third place was taken by the indie group Therr Maitz with 24.6%. After the selection, all three artists stated that the broadcaster offered them participation at the last moment.

I don't understand why she sings about Russian women, when she is not even a Russian herself. In her biography, it says she from Tajikistan

Tajikistan is not a part of Russia nevertheless. She's a member of a powerful family/diaspora with numerous connections to oligarkhs (and crime of course) and she's exploiting the Russian culture and tragedies of Russian women for her own gain, profit and media image. Be it another country - she would be shamed for cultural appropriation.
