Biography
Mardou was started in Cincinnati, OH in 2012 as a wayward bedroom project influenced by 70’s English music, German electronic, c86 and noise pop, early industrial, moody guitar rock, weirdo Midwest punk, dubby sounds, and more. The groups earliest iteration was a barely-functioning, untrained and cacophonous band with Dyon McCratney on guitar and singing, Eric Dietrich on bass, Eric Lindsay on drums, and Aaron Watkins on guitar. Since its creation, Mardou has been an amoeba-esque band whose members, vision, and sound have changed routinely since it’s primitive, gothy 7” debut Rimbaud / Bounty Hunter on Cincinnati noise label Torn Light Records. After almost 3 years of performing and releasing DIY tapes and CD’s of material, the group released an icy debut full-length album Cold Grasp in June 2016 on Chicago experimental label Moniker Records ( Mikey Young, ONO , J.T. IV ). Productivity never slowing, shortly after the album was released, the group recorded “Bitter Energy,” a raucous mercurial album released in March 2019 by Wasted Tapes under it’s current lineup—a sextet somewhere between The Mob, Total Control and Glorious Din , featuring Dylan McCartney, Eric Dietrich, Aaron Watkins, Jerome Westerkamp ( Vacation), Sarah Hanselmann and Dakota Carlyle ( Crime of Passing ).
