Biography

Margarida Guerreiro was born in Alentejo, earth where the traditional music is heard in the plain and lives in the most sensitive people's spirit. Guerreiro grows to hear these sounds together with Amália Rodrigues disks that were part of their parents' choice. After hearing Amália, was born the desire to sing.
This is the feeling that turns her different, the junction of popular root with the mysticism of the Fado.

In 1991 she makes a debut in an of the most important concerts of her life, as amateur fadista (Fado singer) she made Amália Rodrigues first part, obtaining the Diva's blessing.

Six years later she won the contest " Amália Fado Club ", of which her first recording appears. Following she was invited to represent Alentejo in Expo 98, also in the International Festival of Music “El Hatillo” in Venezuela, in the Festival of the 4 Cities (Portugal), invited voice of the projecto " Fado - Flamenco" - Two Musics, The Same Feeling (Spain).

In 2003, Margarida is criticized, for not having in the moment a cd in the market, then she decides to gather with musicians of great importance in the Fado music, Jaime Santos (classical guitar) and Tó Moliças (acoustic bass guitar), also Jorge Silva (portuguese guitar) and Susana Santos (Cello) from where appears her first CD " Sal e Mel “ (Ovação)."

Margarida Guerreiro participates in concerts with : Rodrigo, Maria Armanda, D. Vicente da Câmara, Jorge Fernando, Nuno da Câmara Pereira, Lenita Gentil, Margarida Bessa, José Cid, Dulce Guimarães, Gonçalo Salgueiro, Argentina santos, João Ferreira Rosa, António Pinto Basto, Alexandra, Fernando Maurício… among other. Margarida confirms the recognition and the Portuguese public's affection. Margarida presents her concert " Sal e Mel ". With this work Margarida Guerreiro it also begins a course of international (Spain, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, United States…) recognition.

In 2005 among many concerts, stands out Gabriela Canavilhas's invitation and António Eustáquio for the participation in the " Rencontres Musicales of Méditerranée" Festival in Corsica, where she interpreted some Fados accompanied of portuguese guitar and string quartet.

Margarida accepts the challenge of working with Custódio Castelo being invited by the French company Mecanique Vivante to sing in the unpublished project " The song of the sirens finds the fado " (Imaginarius 2007).

Margarida's voice interprets the most recent Project of Mr. Custódio Castelo (Encores Fado), with Carlos Garcia (classic guitar) and Carlos Menezes (doublebass), Margarida Guerreiro she sings the well known Portuguese poets: Fernando Pessoa, Cecília Meireles, Pedro Homem de Mello, Jorge Fernando, Pedro Abrunhosa, David Mourão Ferreira…

At the moment Margarida prepares a new unpublished album with Custódio Castelo`s production, where her poetic choice leans over on Alentejo returning to Margarida`s people origin.
