Biography

Margot MacDonald is a textbook case of "classically-trained-soprano-turned-to-dark-side-by-Led Zeppelin." The result is a bewitching vocal powerhouse: Robert Plant's wicked strength smoldering with a little Feist. Her hypnotic rock incorporates everything from dirty guitar to acappella scats–but it's her voice that gets you: a textured, cashmere-covered Siren call that sweeps across four octaves. Since ditching her gig with the Washington National Opera (which she landed at the age of 10) and focusing on full-time rock, Margot has opened for Eddie Kowalczyk of LIVE, appeared on the 2009 first-round GRAMMY ballot and played D.C.’s legendary 9:30 Club and New York's Bitter End. She has also been an Artist-in-Residence at the Music Center at Strathmore, where she still regularly performs, and is a five-time Washington Area Music Award winner. In her spare time, Margot supports nonprofits such as Hungry for Music, More Than Me, and City of Hope, and regularly performs at charity events. At the ripe old age of 19, Margot is a BMI Youth Ambassador, serves on the board of directors of the Songwriters’ Association of Washington, and has led GRAMMY U and other songwriting workshops. She is currently working on her fifth CD and secretly roasts individual marshmallows with a lighter, any time, any place.
