i had to use a dictionary to learn what 'rhapsodize' meant in 'did I do that?'. i've learned more words from her than from the books i've read in the past three years

I've always liked Rainbow but it's never been in my top 5 Mariah albums, until the last 2 years. I've really connected to this album and even warmed up to tracks I didn't like such as "Did I Do That?" and "Crybaby". Heartbreaker is awesome but I firmly stand by the remix being much better, it adds so much more charm to it. Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme) is one of the best songs of her career and still stands out. Love the production of the solo version of Against All Odds but the vocals with Westlife are nice to. Petals and Rainbow are absolute hidden gems, two of the best songs of her career. This era has probably my favourite looks of Mariah's career, love everything about the aesthetic of it. Fantastic album, shame it took me so long to really appreciate it.

okay, this is my favorite album by mariah. may not be as good as the others, but it has charisma and grace. here has one of her best ballads as the incredible cover of "against all odds" and "can't take that away" that for me who grew up in the 2000s is very nostalgic.

Isn't one of her best albums but i think this record still good. Petals is one of her more emotional ballads <3

This album is clearly better than her next two releases and the critics agree with me.

Finding a less chintzy home for the breezy synth pop backing of Attack of the Name Game? a masterstroke. Recycling a g-funk classic? predictable.

Different sonic backdrop, yes, but I think it should have been reworked lyrically too - not merely supplemented by Missy Elliott and Da Brat.

I actually prefer the Heartbreaker remix to the original (and so does Mariah - stated in her 1999 Lost Interview). The chorus stands out more and the beat from Ain't No Fun is catchier imo. I'm surprised people are saying it's basically the same as the the original because to me the remix is more of a unique track compared to the original than the ODB remix of Fantasy is (and both versions of Fantasy are both great obviously).

"For some reason this album is very underrated among Mariah fans. Some of her best material is here". Definitely but some of its sounds so phoned in/rushed and ordinary... makes the whole record look worse than it really is but still. Better than her next two albums though, obviously.
