The State of Dreaming

"The State of Dreaming" is the sixth song on Marina's sophomore album Electra Heart (2012). In a track-by-track interview about Electra Heart, Marina said:

"'The State of Dreaming' was inspired by Marilyn Monroe. She basically died in an undignified way. I supposed it’s connected perception and how people see this beautiful image of her and she was a troubled person, but that one image was strong enough to make people behave in certain way, do certain things."

The song was written by Marina, Devrim Karaoğlu and Rick Nowels, and produced by Karaoğlu and Nowels. The music video was released on March 2nd, 2013. "The State of Dreaming" was used as Part 9 of 'The Archetypes', and is a 'Beauty Queen' song, along with Fear and Loathing, and Primadonna.
