In spring 2006 he made his Highly noted debut as CALAF at the Opera House Zurich, followed by successes as DON CARLO at the International Music Festival in Chiemgau and his role debut as MANRICO in a new ‘Il Tovatore’ production on the occasion of the new Bratislava National Opera’s opening.
At the Welsh National Opera, the Wexford Opera, the Royal Opera Copenhagen, the National Opera Prague, the Polish National Opera, the Cologne Opera, in Dublin, Hanover, Kiel, at the Festival in Schwerin, at the Cleveland Opera, the Sacramento Opera, the Sarasota Opera, the Canadian Opera Company , the Pacific Opera Victoria and the Vancouver Opera the Canadian tenor can be seen in such operas as Rigoletto, La Traviata, Aida, La Bohème, Tosca, Carmen, Les Contes d’Hoffman, Jenufa and many others.
The Canadian citizen performed as concert soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Welsh National Radio Orchestra.
The young tenor graduated at the London Royal College of Music. After that, he won the First Prize at the National Clonter Opera Competition in London. He was a finalist at the Placido Domingo International Opera Competition and the Metropolitan Opera Competition.
Televised performances of the artist include o.a. a production of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and a opera gala concert with the Welsh National Radio Orchestra.
2007 the Canadian tenor sang RADAMES among others in a huge AIDA production in Paris, Marseille, Brussels, Lisbon, Budapest, Stuttgart, Dortmund,… and in a new production of the Eutin Festival.
He will also sing RADAMES in the saison 07/08 at the Bratislava National Opera, the Opera House Chemnitz and in Münster. Besides, he will portray ALFREDO in La Traviata at the Opera House Linz. In the seasons 07/08/09 Mario Zhang can be seen as CALAF and DON JOSE at the Semperoper Dresden.
