Biography

Mark Northfield was born in Cambridge, England. He is an indie-pop/classical singer, songwriter, arranger and frequent collaborator, and also the head ballet pianist for the MT degree course at Arts Ed in West London.

Influences: Kate Bush, The Divine Comedy, Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright, Pink Martini, Radiohead, The Magnetic Fields, ABBA, Pet Shop Boys, The Beatles, Bjork, This Mortal Coil, Tindersticks, Philip Glass, Beethoven, Gavin Bryars, Faure, Chopin etc.

He is a strong supporter of the album as an important artform worth preserving in the era of shuffling. His first official release, 'Ascendant', was a song-cycle of sorts, with linking sections between songs anticipating and echoing themes heard elsewhere on the album. It can be heard in its entirety on both Bandcamp and Spotify.

His follow-up 'Alterations' will be released in late 2011 and will consist of five relatively straightforward songs and their more complex neo-classical counterparts, each of the latter five being built around musical riffs and themes taken from one of the first five.

The Death Of Copyright ep is the first revealing of material from Alterations, with the title track and it's partner song from Alterations 'The Forecaster' making up half the EP. The remaining tracks are a reworking of ABBA's understated masterpiece, The Day Before You Came, and an extended version of another new album track, Headlonging. It will be released digitally on July 11th 2011.
