Takin' It Back is the fifth major-label studio album by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor, released on October 21, 2022. Musically, it features Trainor returning to the doo-wop sound of her debut major-label studio album, Title (2015). This marks a significant transition away from the electronic pop sound of her previous studio album, Treat Myself (2020). The album's lead single, Bad For Me (feat. Teddy Swims), was released on June 24, 2022, while the 2nd single, Made You Look was released the same day as the album.
The album debut at #16 on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming her fourth album to reach the top 30. Takin' It Back also charted in numerous other countries, including Canada, the UK, Denmark, Norway, and Australia. The album was notably released the same day as fellow female pop star albums, The Loneliest Time by Carly Rae Jepson and Midnights by Taylor Swift, causing a ton of social media press for all three of the pop stars.
In February of 2021, Meghan Trainor's 2014 song, Title went viral on Tik Tok, which significantly influenced the sound and direction for this album. In an interview, Trainor states, "It's like Title 2.0. It's my old school, it's true to myself in all the weird genres that I go to, but also modern with my doo-wop in there. The lyrics are stronger than ever, and it's still a party."
A deluxe edition of the album was released on March 10, 2023, along with the release of the 3rd official single, Mother. The deluxe edition features three new songs and a remix version of Made You Look.
