they deserve more recognition, they deserve to be more than "the band who made a song for scott pilgrim"

Metric? More like, Me Trick. Because me was tricked into falling in love with Emily Haines.

I've known Metric since Fantasies, been a casual listener since Pagan in Vegas, now with Formentera I am officially deeply obsessed.

The social commentary and critical reflection in some of the songs are well appreciated. False Dichotomy, Doomscroller, Paths in the sky and (specially) I Will Never Settle are my fav tracks due to their lyrics and production. It’s not a bad album in overall. I’m not disappointed at all. : ]

Jesus H Fucking Christ.. Doomscroller is a completely mental masterpiece, much like Susanne Sundfor's Memorial. What an album this is.

Long songs are always better when done properly. It allows for progression; leaving open plenty more room for incredibly fervid buildups, transitions, and ethereal interludes all utilized (hopefully) in conjunction. And in the case that a lengthy song is instead repetitive; it just means you get to experience it for a longer duration and truly get lost in it (see: The Wedding Present's "Take Me!" or Burzum's "Jesus Tod"). Though, with that being said, if a song boasts an extended runtime but remains timid and temperate while arguably not really going anywhere progressively within that duration, then I can see that being less than ideal (mostly excluding ambient in that case, since for instance a hypnotic 10-minute-long drone track is kinda the point).

Three singles in and Formentera is shaping up to be an amazing record. These first three singles have showcased their depth of musical styles. I am so stoked to hear the entire record \m/

Radiohead is alternative rock and is only more popular because they became popular when alternative rock was still played on the radio. So, their increase in popularity is because they had radio and even tv to the masses promotion when they began. metric did not. Radiohead has 5.5m listeners, which is more than metric obviously, but isn't a lot, compared to current true mainstream artist. just like Metallica is extremely famous because they began at a time metal music was heavily promoted. if they began when metric did, things would have been different. no modern metal band can come close, BMTH is one of the most popular today, they have 1.6m listeners, less then metric even. so, no, indie isn't mainstream, and if you play anything other than rap, country or pop, you are lucky to be known at all today.

They've got a bit of range over their years of albums so depends on what you like! Personally my favorite album of theirs by far is Fantasies, especially the songs "Satellite Mind" and "Gold Guns Girls". I like when they get a little of their synthier side going. But if you like the kind of grittier rock qualities of Black Sheep, maybe try "Monster Hospital" or "Dead Disco", which are older but good. Also if you have the chance to see them live, DO IT, they will rock your face off and you may discover a new favorite song.
