I know that 'Pagans In Vegas' doesn't make ready listening for fans of the "old Metric", any more than 'Synthetica'. But I don't agree that they've "become a completely different band". I've loved their music from the start and learned to appreciate a readiness to take risks and evolve with each album, well worth the effort. In their more ironic lyrics, they've held fast to a vision of the world that hates hypocrisy and sham and expresses a kind of cynical idealism! Seen live when they toured this LP, Metric were still one of the tightest and most exciting bands around and performed a generous range of other numbers spanning their career. I understand that 'Pagans' gave James Shaw a chance to bring his ideas to the fore within the band's dynamic. I'd like to hear a side-project that further explores the instrumental themes on 'Pagans', while predicting that their next album will both move on and mark a stylistic return to perhaps more popular terrain.

I'm disappointed with both this album and 'Synethetica.' They've changed their sound so much, and have become a completely different band.
