Biography

Miguel Pérez (Málaga, 1976) had his first encounter with music in the Youth Music Band of the Miraflores and Gibraljaire Schools in his hometown. He continued his musical studies at the Higher Conservatory of Music, obtaining a degree as a Professor of Solfege, Music Theory, Transposition, and Accompaniment, as well as a degree as a Superior Professor of Tuba. Since 1990, he has been composing in various formats, publishing and premiering his music worldwide, including works for radio, television, cinema, and all kinds of shows.

In 1994, he wrote the lyrics and music for a malagueña, which was performed by Pasión Vega and won the First Prize at the X Certamen de Malagueñas de Fiesta, an annual contest organized by the City Council of Málaga. The following year, he founded the Miguel Pérez Orchestra (1995-2008), for which he wrote songs inspired by the swing music of the 1940s. Two years later, he established the Miguel Pérez Consort (1997-2010), with which he recorded "Deus Meus" (1999), funded by Turismo Andaluz.

He was a pianist for the Che Camerata Quartet (1997-2006), performing concerts throughout Europe. In 1998, he won the First Prize at the II Concurso Nacional de Composición de Marchas Procesionales Maestro Perfecto Artola, and Injuve selected him for a national tour performing his piano compositions.

He served as the conductor of the Banda Municipal de Música de Sedella (2005-2007) and collaborated on the program "Bajo Palio" on Canal Sur Radio (1997-1998). In 2006, the Municipal Music Band of Málaga recorded a monographic CD featuring his compositions dedicated to the Holy Week of Málaga, funded by Diario Sur. He also arranged the music for Nacho Artacho's album "Los Días y Los Hombres," and in 2016, he collaborated on the piano in José Antonio Delgado's album "La vida por entero."

In 2010, he produced his first solo work as a composer and pianist, titled "Biotza." He repeated this experience in 2013 with "Oporto," in 2015 with "Amanay," and in 2017 with "Siroco." In 2016, he wrote the music for "La Señorita Julia," a new theatrical version written by Marcella Brignole based on Strindberg's classic play.

As a writer, he has published "Cincuenta Poemas Mal Peinados" (Belgeuse, 2005) and "El Cuarto Baño" (Seleer, 2016), and he has been a music critic for the newspaper La Opinión de Málaga (2006). Currently, he combines teaching with his work as a composer.
