Biography
Milliken Chamber is the creative project of Anna Schmidt and Kevin Czarnik. A dark wave duo, reminiscent of 80s synth pop which is filled with mood drenched electronics mixed alongside haunting and melancholic vocals. Icy and distinguishing synth leads with pounding bass lines to make you dance on a frozen lake in the dead of night.
Czarnik grew up in Detroit, Michigan, coming from a background in film and graphic design. His musical projects include Denim which is power electronics derived as well as new solo cold synth project Belladonna Grave which is closer in style to his well-loved post-punk duo Forever Grey. Schmidt has more of a dramatic arts background as a classically trained first soprano, immersive theater and musical theater performer. Formerly based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the two first began a similarly styled project with bandmate Miles Murphy called Prudence in 2015, which consisted of even more minimal and sad synth pop inspired by Depeche Mode. Prudence self-released the EP, Strange Memories, the following year with several tracks immediately featured on compilations by record labels such as Oraculo and Cold Beats.
The name changed to Milliken Chamber in 2017 after former bandmate Murphy moved to Ireland. The now duo released their next home-recorded debut EP, Lily of the Valley on label Starved Relations soon afterwards. Upon recently moving to Los Angeles, California, Milliken Chamber records their full-length debut to be released this winter.
