Biography
There are two bands named Mjölnir: 1) Black metal band from Germany. 2) Gothic metal band from the Netherlands.
1) Mjölnir is a black metal band from Köln, Germany. The band supposedly existed since 1991, and after releasing 4 demo's and a split demo with a fellow Köln band (Antichrist), they got a chance to release a full album when Darker Than Black and Hate Productions started cooperating.
When the authorities started cracking down on the ever-growing NSBM scene in Germany either one or both of those labels got raided, and subsequently all activities of those labels stopped, including the release/releasing of Mjölnir's work. "Hinweg über Die Tore Der Zeit" was reissued by Darker Than Black in 2015.
2) Mjölnir is a gothic metal band from Overijssel, Netherlands, founded in 1997. After a well-received demo, "Whispering Sorcery" is the first release by this Holland-based band. Mjölnir's music could well be described as Atmospheric Dark Metal. While the broad keyboard parts set a fabulous, often sinister atmosphere and heavenly female vocals and clean guitars provide a lot of diversity, the edgy, layering guitar lines and deep grunts definitely make this a metalalbum. National media have so far compared Mjölnir with bands like Tristania, Within Temptation and early The Gathering. Mjölnir has already performed with well known acts like Within Temptation, Asphyx and God Dethroned. Despite musical differences, the band was able to convince the audiences at those shows.
