Two months ago I stood in the exact spot where the cover photo was taken and I just realized why the scenery was so eerily familiar.

For me it was underwhelming, all songs seemed like elevator music. Mogwai's other albums sound much better and have more soul to them, imo

It has been nearly nine years since I last listened to this album. I was a relatively young Mogwai fan at the time, discovering them around 2008, and I remember enjoying this a lot. Coming back to it, I have to agree. Listening to the album as a whole is still an enjoyable experience, but it has not left a lasting impact on me like some of their other albums have.

The bonus disc (Music for a Forgotten Future) is the best thing about this album.

Just noticed that I listened to this album for the first time on 21st December 2012. If the world would have really ended, I would have probably died listening to this album. Well, i would have died whilst listening to good music. :)

The Hawk is Howling was a decent album, but other than one or two tracks nothing on it really stood out in my mind. I felt the albums prior to that had songs with more individual identity. This album raises the bar way back up in my opinion. This is their best written and most cohesive (without being monotonous) album since Happy Songs for Happy People.
