    Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

Nadagen was a short-lived Dutch new wave band from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Active for nearly two years in 1982 and 1983, they were part of the so-called Nederwave: a wave of mostly obscure post-punk and new wave bands who sang in Dutch.

Nadagen started in the early months of 1982 as Doheo's Nadagen. Founding members were Marc Josten ('chanteur'), Peter Simons (bass) and Rob Besjes (guitar). They wrote songs, made demo recordings, rehearsed at Rob's two-room apartment and played their first ever gig in the Spring of 1982, featuring their Dr. Rhythm drum computer.

Shortly after this they were introduced to a guy with a synthesizer: Lex van Moorsel. Lex had a broader musical background and he also had a guitar, an amplifier, and a driving licence. Nadagen had now - quite literally - found a driving force. In the Summer of 1982 they went to a small four-track semi-professional recording studio Oktopus in Amsterdam. They recorded a six song demo tape.

The band had just purchased a brand-new Roland drum computer when they met Guus Bauer in late 1982. With Bauer as their drummer the band did a second recording session, this time at the NightFlight Studios in Amsterdam. They recorded another six songs that finally found their way to vinyl on two 7-inch records released just before the Summer of 1983. Their lead single, 'Kult', failed to get significant airplay, much to the band's frustration. Recording sessions for a full-length LP were called off and Marc Josten decided to quit, ushering in the end of Nadagen.

Rob Besjes wrote and recorded an album called Selfies van de Ziel, which was released in June 2023 under the Nadagen moniker. In the mean time, the band's songs 'Staccato' was included on the 2023 Nederwave compilation LP, De Toekomst Laat Me Koud: De Nieuwe Nederlandse Golf 1980-1985, which got considerable media attention and sparked modest new interest in Nadagen's work. The band members then decided to release their 1982 and 1983 recordings as a full-length vinyl LP after all: Nadagen, released in January 2024.
