For many decades, the center of the US recording industry was the Brill Building, a tall office building in New York city, where many recording companies had recording studios, many songwriters worked in the offices (even if not for a recording company), and session musicians hung around all day to do demos for song-writers and even full-blown sessions for release cuts.
In this song, Neil publicly proclaims his infatuation for the precociously young Brill Building song-writer Carol King. Shortly thereafter, Carol publicly humiliates by brushing him off with her answer song, "Oh! Neil". Sad, but true.
