Skeleton Tree was mostly done already when his son passed away, so I do not believe it had any major influence on this album. To be fair, Nick has always had a very unconventional approach to his songwriting; through large portions of his career it has been so heavily driven by narrative that it resembles prose more than poetry. It is indeed 'clunky' at times but I guess that is the charm of it.

Those first 3 lines are so obvious what they're referring to. The rest of the album is fairly subtle but what a way to open the record; so sad.

reminds me a lot of the style on Your Funeral, My Trial. he even harmonizes with himself like on Sad Waters

for me, "where do we go now but nowhere?" has held the place as the saddest song i've heard from the bad seeds discography, but as soon as i heard the lines "you're a young man waking, covered in blood that is not yours" and "you believe in god, but you get no special dispensation for this belief now", my heart shattered. this album is going to be devastating and we're not worthy lol sob.
