some people could argue that The Fragile is a 'better' record in lots of aspects, but to me, The Downward Spiral is simply THE best one. no wonder it is still so impactful even in the current age of the world - it is so shocking, but so fucking REAL. the never-ending rage, insanity beyond repair, extreme self-hatred and contempt to the world for his own corruption. THIS is how you do an album. Trent Reznor is a genius, but not even himself could overcome the importance of this record to the world. there isn't a SINGLE flaw in this album. I am so deeply grateful for it, and so grateful for Trent because he did NOT give himself up to his own struggles. TDS, and himself, is an immense inspiration for me, and this is the first time, for sure, that an album had SUCH significance for me in my entire life. I don't think I could ever explain in words how much The Downward Spiral means to me already. happy 30th anniversary to this extraordinary record.

i have more personal connection with The Fragile and i think it's the most unabashedly "trent" album, but in terms of consistency and being absolutely 0% body fat, yeah this is the one. never a dull moment, and its artistic staying power in damn near every musical sphere is something to behold

"0% body fat" is a perfect description for this album, especially compared to The Fragile

Happy birthday to an absolutely amazing album, which let me know for the first time how *visceral* music could be, how cutting yet soothing a harsh sound could be to me... when I was struggling, I had it by my side to listen to. I hardly ever skip a song still, because each one is simply amazing to me 🖤 I'm thankful for it still, because it really helped to ignite my passion for music. Happy 30th

happy 30th to one of the best albums ever made, and the biggest musical turning point since its release; a cultural point of no return, the "bottom" of the spiral. it only gets better with age

the perfect, quintessential 'we live in a society' album. hope you're taking notes, Joker.

i joke, but this album is really so much more than that. the storyline is thorough and heartbreaking, the production is next-level (like it sounds incredibly fresh even today) and the last leg is... hard to listen to. But wow, is it worth it. If Mezzanine is the trip hop bible (alongside Dummy), this is the Industrial rock bible, without a doubt.
