Press Release for Ninetails' debut EP 'Ghost Ride the Whip' -

Math is everywhere at the moment. Everywhere apart from the Chancellor's office, anyway. If this
were Zoolander, we'd say, “math. So hot right now.” You get the point.

The question is, with incredible albums this year from Brontide, And So I Watch You From Afar and Three Trapped Tigers already vying for space on end of year lists, is there any more room for another? We certainly think so. Where so far math rock bands have striven for virtuosic complexity, very few have taken the more avant-garde possibilities of the form and married it properly to a true pop sensibility; Foals and Tall Ships are the only two that readily spring to mind, putting Ninetails in good company.

Now, that's not to say that Ninetails aren't great muscians; they are. It's not even to suggest that they don't delight in challenging riffs, patterns and loops, for they do; witness the cascading looped melodies of opener 'I.F.', or the fluid guitar figures of 'Pedestrian'. A subtle swagger permeates the rhythm section throughout, counterpointing their more oblique tendencies with something uniquely accessible. It is however the melodies that truly set Ninetails apart; from the anthemic “we're infinite, forever” chant of 'I.F.' to the sweeping chorus of 'Social Guesswork', the band never let singer Ed Black's rich vocals get lost in the arrangements, and this delicate balance lends them their power.

We think it's simply infectious; never less than catchy, more often close to genius. These aren't dumb songs, but they'll still burrow into your skull and lay fucking eggs. You have been warned.
