For sound, absolutely. But beware of the physical formats. The vinyl artwork on the FDR reissues looks dreadful. Way too dark, lack of details, etc. Earache likely used an upscaled CD copy for it.

I guess it should be "Nocturnus A.D.", but "AD" version is actually more popular. But from https://www.metal-archives.com/search?searchString=Nocturnus&type=band_name - you can see "AD" belongs somehow to After Death; and "A.D." version is mentioned in Nocturnus' bio. Guessing that Nocturnus A.D. will be added there when it releases any album.

Demo of new song "Aeon of the Ancient Ones" with a suitably cheesy old school video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k07H4_OAzE

Thresholds >>>>>>>>>> The Key. Seriously, everything Nocturnus made by far is better than "The Key"... at least for my ears, this album is boring as even Atheist works never was. But the rest of their works are just masterpieces, I fuckin' love "Thresholds" and "Ethereal Tomb", it's just top form of technical death.

I have such thing with death metal, that chaotic drumming and some kind of over-technicalization bore me, instead of making me interested. That's why I reject classics like "Altars of Madness", for example. Also, I'm sucker for intense atmosphere, and then "Thresholds" is great example of well-crafted soundscapes. "The Key" has good moments, but fails in overall feeling, I'd say. Although I haven't listened it since 2015, so thanks for giving me reason to relisten.. it's definitely more interesting, even if still nothing amazes me in this album.

And here there's a crossroad where our feelings divide - I can't agree with you. Of course, "The Key" has better production and creates more "crushing" atmosphere, yet I need something more clear and twisted - and here "Thresholds" seems to fit better to my taste. It's just like difference between norwegian and greek black metal - both have their own enthusiasts, but I'm greek black metal fanatic for the same reason as here. But many people would disagree, than greeks are superior in atmosphere - which is just matter of different view at the same definition.

I love their sound but I hate their albums' productions. The sound is too thin on all of them. I would like more punch in The Key and especially Thresholds.

I'm now starting to like Thresholds more. For years, I didn't. Now it's absolutely fantastic to me.

The question is if an FDR of The Key is really necessary. For marketing and sales, perhaps. The original pressing of The Key is good, both the CD and vinyl. I don't see how or why they would improve it, if not to remix it a bit and maybe "enhance" it sonically (while keeping it dynamic). So basically they could just re-release the original CD pressing and master without doing anything at all with it. I guess that is exactly what they did with "Thresholds", which in its own turn could've actually needed some audio refinement instead. As long as they re-issue The Key in a good dynamic format, wether it's the original mix or a new dynamic mix, and not like the remastered one, I'll be one happy customer. Especially if they would, maybe, include the Science Of Horror demo as bonus tracks. That would be neat!
