Originally recorded while the band was still in high school, The Wanderer was a live studio recording performed at the Gizmo Recording Company in Silver Spring, MD. The album is a combination of two sessions occurring on March 25, 1997 and July 25, 1997. During the first session the following songs were recorded: Ladanday, That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker, Toy Store, and Get Away. Prior to The Wanderer these four songs were sold on a demo tape. After the second recording session, the band paid to have CD copies printed up, and then started selling them "out-of-trunk" style, so we don't have an exact release date. The Wanderer would later be re-released on February 20, 2001 when Everfine Records signed a deal with ADA (Alternative Distribution Alliance)

With the release of this album, O.A.R. successfully developed a large group of loyal followers. The album truly captures the most pure and natural elements of the band's sound. Online distribution helped make the album popular on college campuses, where O.A.R. attained much of their fan base.
