“Hello“ is about a girl that as time passes, the singer doesn't really care about anymore. Noel Gallagher explained to Select magazine: "The lyrics are just saying, 'Well, it's not about, be the same for us anymore, I suppose.'"
"It was written just towards the end of the Definitely Maybe sessions," he added. If Definitely Maybe was about dreaming about being in a band, this one is actually about being in a band. So it's like,'Hello, it's good to be back' - back making records."
The street featured on the sleeve artwork is Berwick Street in London, (district) W1.
Noel Gallagher sings at the end the chorus to Gary Glitter's 1973 hit "Hello (Its Good To Be Back)." (Glitter was an influence on Britpop). He explained: "I started singing, 'Hello, hello, it's good to be back,' and everyone just fell about laughing. As the track progressed, we found we couldn't get rid of it, so we stuck it in."
The song incorporates an excerpt taken from “Hello, Hello I’m Back Again” by Gary Glitter.
