"girl i've always been" is the fourteenth and second deluxe track from Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore studio album, GUTS. It was released on November 24, 2023, and rereleased on March 22, 2024, through Geffen Records.
The track was first teased in a video Olivia's team posted to their Instagram alongside "obsessed", "scared of my guitar" and "stranger".
On October 18, 2023, Olivia announced that "girl i've always been" along with the other deluxe tracks would be released on a special edition vinyl called The Secret Tracks through RSD. It was polished up and given a re-release with the other tracks and a new one in GUTS (spilled), the deluxe version of the album.
In this song, Rodrigo sings about how she never changed her behavior regarding people who backstab her. She retracts different situations through the song and people saying that she changed, but she is always like.
