Biography

Onor Bumbum is one of the aliases of Onur Uzunismail, a singer/songwriter from Istanbul, Turkey. He makes melodic electronic music using computers and various tools he builds and records.

Growing up with an enthusiasm for music and technology, he recorded his early compositions using a boombox and various favourite cassettes of his sister’s. At the age of twelve he started recording his compositions on computer. Through his teenage years, he played drums in various bands, and even built a custom drum-kit for his needs.

At university he studied chemical engineering, but decided not to spend his life working as a chemical engineer and started to focus more on electronic music and computers. He expanded on his musical background with a masters degree in Sound Engineering. He built several MIDI devices and software pieces to help him realise his desire to perform electronic music live. Being a field recording enthusiast, he built a database of sounds for him to spice up his music.

In 2006 Onor Bumbum won a ‘Special Jury Award’ from the Istanbul Roxy Music Awards, a very unusual award for an electronic music project to get in a rock oriented contest.

He was also a member of the band 2 Curlies - the other member being Jean Pierre Smadj - which released a digital album on iTunes in 2008. The duo gave several concerts as the band 2 Curlies in Istanbul. He also performed withTalvin Singh, Eric Truffaz, and Ibrahim Maalouf.

He has composed music for several television and web adverts and for fashion shows. He has also composed, mixed, and mastered albums for Turkish artists such as Emir Yargın and Mutlu Son.

In 2009 he released Sleeping, the first digital EP of his side project Buggyboy. The songs on the EP were composed almost entirely by using a grain sampling virtual instrument he made (Kakalak).

A Red Bull Music Academy participant in 2010, he has collaborated with musicians all over the world, and played at one of the world’s most famous music festivals, Sonar/Barcelona.

In 2010 he released his first CD album, Diyorum ki, consisting of ten downtempo, electronica love songs. He toured with his band around Turkey and played in one of Turkey’s biggest festivals ‘Efes Pilsen One Love Festival’ as the headliner of the alternative stage. His band members are Fehmi Alatan on trumpet and keyboards, Murat Kirkit on guitar, Osman Konuray on drums, and Duygu Demir on cello.
