Biography
Starting as the side project of Ash Shields, Open Eyes is now his main musical endeavour. After the initial release of the first EP, The Whole World Asleep and Breathing, Open Eyes went on unofficial hiatus, and nothing was produced until mid-2013, when Shields began releasing teasers for an upcoming EP release.
The EP, titled Hikikomori, was released in November 2013. The studio release is once again a solo release, but live shows include the introduction of other musicians to the project: primarily another guitarist and trumpeter, TJ Howell. The album also shows a shift in sound from exclusively electronically-produced ambience to a more post-rock leaning, with influences from acts such as Mono.
